Spartanburg Methodist College will add wrestling team



Spartanburg Methodist College will add wrestling to the Pioneers' athletic program, 

the school announced on Monday. 



Vice president and dean for administrative affairs Bob McLendon anticipates signing 

30 student-athletes to the Pioneers' wrestling team. 



"SMC has a long tradition of athletic excellence," McLendon said. "We feel that the 

programs will continue that tradition of excellence. 



As with other intercollegiate sports, scholarships will be offered to students who 

sign on with the new programs. SMC president Charles Teague said the school can 

already provide excellent facilities. 



Our William S. Moore Student Athletic Activities Building will enable fans to be 

close to the intense competition on the wrestling mats" Teague said.
