How are SC Wrestling Rankings done?
Members of the SC Wrestling Coaches Association provide feedback each week after reviewing rankings. This feedback is the largest contributor to influencing the rankings in 4A, 3A, 2A-1A and SCISA. Results and feedback can be sent in to SCMAT by Coaches, Parents, Wrestlers, Fans. If you think a wrestler or team is not ranked high enough, we likely do not have enough information. Check the monthly Scoreboards and search for your team and/or wrestler to see if we have recent results. Updates to the SCMAT.COM rankings can be sent to: Mark Buford - scmat@hotmail.com or mark@scmat.com Individual Rankings - Primary factors considered: 1) Prior state placers 2) Prior state qualifiers 3) Head-to-head matches (most importantly - wins against top ranked wrestlers) 4) Current season record 5) Strength of competition during the year Individual Rankings - lesser consideration: 1) Wins & Losses in other classifications 2) Losses at higher weight classes 3) Out-of state wins Individual Rankings are NOT based on: 1) Pre-season Takedown tournaments 2) Results from USAW (Freestyle/Greco) or AAU events 3) Out-of state losses Team Rankings - Primary factors considered: 1) Head-to-head dual matches 2) Tournament results 3) Strength of competition during the year Team Rankings - lesser consideration: 1) Wins & Losses in other classifications 2) Out-of state wins 3) Performance from prior years (i.e. consistent top 10 placements) 4) Returning leadership and depth Team Rankings are NOT based on: 1) Wrestler(s) out of the lineup for multiple weeks (when a good wrestler returns it likely will boost a team's rank) 2) Comparisons of Individual rankings (coaches can move wrestlers to different weight classes as strategy) 3) Out-of state losses
