Reply I have arranged for World/Olympic head greco coach Steve Fraser to hold one of his US Camps series in Charleston (well, at Hanahan High School) June 27-30th (Mon-Thurs). This will be a commuter camp that will start early and be completed by 5:00 every afternoon. There will be optional training/conditioning after 5:00 Mon-Wed. The focus of this camp will be on advanced functional technique. Offense and use of heavy hands, front headlocks, Russian Two on one's, underhooks, bodylocks, and counters. Additionally there will be time spent on mat strategy, situationals, mat wrestling/parterre, mental toughness. This system is designed for serious wrestlers wanting to advance their technique and fine tune the little things that make a difference in big matches against top competition. This camp was also designed with the kids going to Fargo in mind. Coach Fraser himself won the the gold in the 84 Olympics and has since trained many of the sports greats (Rulon Gardner, Randy Couture, Dan Henderson, Brad Vering, Sam Hazewinkle, The Mango's, Byers, etc). See his bio: http://www.uscamps.net/coach-steve-fraser.html Coach Fraser will be bringing Sam Hazewinkle in as well. Hazewinkle was a 4x all American and a finalist at the University of Oklahoma. Haze has also won numerous national and international titles in greco/freestyle. Most recently he won the 2011 US Open for freestyle and WILL be a finalist this weekend at the World Team Trials. Our small group format (50 athletes per group), focused drill sessions, and proven technical system draw some of the best wrestlers in the country. Focused, driven parents realize that their son needs to be exposed to a proven format within a small group setting. This is why kids from all over the U.S. (AK,HI, NH, FL, CA, PA, OH, etc.) forego the Large University camps with 300 plus campers, and choose Nick and Tony’s Takedown Camp. From novice athletes, to experienced athletes, to entire teams, many parents and coaches are trekking across the U.S. to attend. We believe wrestling is a POSITION BASED sport, not MOVE BASED. Being exposed to a ton of moves in one week (a typical camp format) does not guarantee success. But learning how to get from bad position to good position, then scoring with sound technique, does. Your son will be taught a SYSTEM, not a bunch of random moves. Your son will learn how to use his hands, and wrestle TO THE LEG! We believe that all the wrestling takes place before, and after, you get to the leg. Our system will get you scoring points and winning matches. The last session of the camp is an intense final review /drill session in which YOUare invited to attend and watch. Nick and Tony want to SHOW OFF what they have done with your son and prove to you that their camp is the best in the Nation. We urge you to find another camp in America with the confidence to do this! During the session, (with parents watching) Nick and Tony are able to stand idly by, call out every technique covered, and have even the most novice wrestler drill the technique properly for several minutes straight. The camp is limited to just 50 athletes per group. High School and Youth TEAMs are encouraged to attend and do so every year... which is one reason a week of camp can literally fill in a matter of minutes. Enroll today if you are interested in seeing your son (or team) turned into a Takedown Machine. With the last session being the tell all, we obviously work very hard with every athlete. *The camp has booked up in each of the past 8 YEARSit’s been held and begins filling up a year in advance. Under the rules, Winter sports teams are allowed 10 days of organized team competition between the dates of June 1st and July 25th. Basketball programs around the state take advantage of this opportunity by competing in team camps at various colleges, much like many of the wrestling programs in the state do. However, the high school basketball coaches around the state have set up tournament dates at various high schools where their teams go and compete in 4-5 games in one day to gain a competitive advantage. This summer Hillcrest High School will host a summer scrimmage dual tournament on Friday June 10 at Hillcrest High School. This provides your program an opportunity to get some valuable mat time before you head off to your team camps in late June and early July. Teams would compete against other teams in a dual format to get 4-5 matches for each wrestler. The tournament format would run something like this: Weight Classes: 14 regulation high school weight classes will serve as a starting point, but coaches will be free to match up their teams as best they can to maximize opportunities to wrestle. Periods: 3 ninety second periods. CONTINUOUS CLOCK Start Time: 9:00 AM Team Scoring: No Team scores will be kept. No awards will be handed out.
